The church is open every day for visits, quiet reflection and prayer as follows:-

Weekdays 9:30 am to 5.00 pm
Weekends 10.00 am to 5.00 pm

Within the beautiful and ancient walls of St George’s Church Hinton and St Nicholas’ Church Dinnington you will find a warm welcome awaits you.

St George’s Church, together with St Nicholas’ Church in Dinnington, is administered by the Parochial Church Council of Hinton St George with Dinnington and forms part of a joint Benefice which encompasses the villages of Merriott, Hinton St George, Dinnington, Lopen, Haselbury Plucknett and North Perrott. Currently, the post of Rector is held as a job share by Revs Julia and Bob Hicks.

The current general pattern of services is as follows:

1st Sunday – 10.30am​ Morning Prayer (a short service of ‘The Word’, with hymns)

2nd Sunday ​- 9:00am Holy Communion at St Nicholas, Dinnington

3rd Sunday ​- 9.00am​ Holy Communion (a traditional language service without hymns)

4th Sunday​ – 10.30am​ Parish Communion (a modern language service with hymns)

5th Sunday​ – 10.30am Benefice Communion Service (rotates around our six churches)

The 10.30am services are normally followed by tea, coffee and biscuits.

Other Events

All sorts of activities and events are held in the church during the year.We have talks, lectures, concerts, charity lunches, flower festivals and more. Please see the ‘Church Link Magazine’ and church posters for up to date information.

Supporting our Churches

Hinton’s 15th century church was in the past largely sustained and supported by the Poulett family.Today, the church remains a lively centre for worship, fellowship and outreach. All the funds needed to maintain the Grade I listed building – building fabric, churchyard, insurance, heating etc, and the Parish Share, which pays for the clergy across the Diocese – must be raised locally.  The same is also true for St Nicholas church in Dinnington.

A Charitable trust, Our Church Hinton St George Building Trust, was set up in 2016 with the following purpose: For the benefit of the public to: “maintain, repair, restore, preserve, improve and enhance the fabric of the church of St. George located in the village of Hinton St. George in the county of Somerset, its monuments, fixtures, fittings, furniture, stained glass, ornaments and other chattels and its churchyard”. Church Safeguarding Policy

St Nicholas’ Church

The ancient church dates at least to the early 13th century. The chancel is from the 1300s, the chancel arch, nave, and south porch a century later, though the structure of the nave is thought to be older. The church was restored in 1863, thought to have reproduced original detail. The church is part of the Merriott Benefice with Hinton St George, Merriott, Lopen, Haselbury Plucknett and North Perrott.

The general pattern of services is as follows: 2nd Sunday of month, Holy Communion, 9:00am.
