In 2024, Hinton St George Parish Council engaged the services of Kevin Morris to complete a Conservation Area Appraisal for the village of Hinton St George. Our reason for undertaking this Appraisal was to understand whether the Conservation Area designation was still fit for purpose, particularly in the context of major changes in planning policy at national and local level, recent development proposals and to define what is special about our village, to identify what should continue to be protected and to consider if other areas of architectural or historic interest should be included in the Conservation Area.
The draft Conservation Area Appraisal is now available here for review, and printed copies are available for reading in the following village locations:
- Our Shop
- Lord Poulett Arms
- St George’s Church
- South Street (Cllr Paul Lanham)
- High Street (Cllr Andy Barber)
- Hinton Close / Green St (Cllr Fred Voss)
- Church Street / Church Drive (Cllr Mary Herbert)
- Brettingham Court / Hinton House (Cllr Ian Yorston)
- Merriott Rd / Teakettle Lane (Stephen & Anne Huggett)
- Gas Lane (Jackie Spurrier)
- Green St / Lopen Rd (Victor & Clare McWilliams)
- Abbey St / Abbey Place (Ann & Peter Matthews)
- West St (Jane Jackson)
Copies will also be available for reading at the Parish Council meeting on 16th November 2026 at St George’s Hall.
At a later date, consultation forms will be sent out to all village electors requesting feedback, which will then be analysed and the results formally discussed at the next available Parish Council meeting. Through this, we hope to ensure that the resulting outcome is fully representative of residents’ views before it is submitted to Somerset Council for review.
We encourage you to review the Appraisal and we look forward to your feedback.
