If you live, work or visit Somerset, the Local Plan is relevant to you. It will guide where and how change happens across towns, villages and the countryside over the next 20 years. We want to know what you think Somerset should look like in the future.

The Somerset Local Plan Scoping Consultation has launched and will run until Friday 24 July 2026.The Somerset Local Plan is being prepared under a new plan-making system, so the consultation may look a little different from ones you have taken part in before.
We want to hear your views on:
- What matters the Local Plan should cover
- How we should engage with you
- Our proposed vision and outcomes
- The hierarchy of settlements
- Draft spatial strategy options
- The draft Sustainability Appraisal of those options
