Our Church Hinton St George Building Trust

St George's Grade 1 listed church has been part of the village for some 500 years and we aim to preserve it for at least another 500.

We, as a community of Hinton St George, saved Our Shop and Post Office from closure in 2011 and some four years later went on to face another real challenge. Following a Quinquennial Inspection, it was discovered our historic and much-loved Church was at risk. The tower was dangerous with pieces of stonework threatening to fall away and there was a real threat that if work was not carried out the Church would have to close. With the help of a Heritage Lottery grant and generous donations, work began to repair the damage.

And so, a group of people from the village established a long-term programme of fundraising and set up Our Church Hinton St George Building Trust. The aim of the Trust is to establish an endowment to ensure the buildings and environs of Our Church are preserved for the Community and that it will be here for the generations that follow. The Trust support the Parochial Church Council (PCC) which has full responsibility for the Church building. The Trustees of the Trust will consider any request from the PCC for support to repair or maintain the structure, environs and fabric of the Church (in accordance with the Trust Deed) but is not involved in funding or supporting the day to day running of the Church as a place of worship.

One of the ways you can help is by joining the “Friends of Our Church”. A modest subscription of £24 a year, or £2 a month, will help us grow the endowment. For more details, please contact Jane Jackson: janefrancesjackson@gmail.com. Thank you.
